Brick calculation questions
How many bricks are needed for 1 square foot of wall?
For a 4.5 inch (single brick) wall with standard 9 × 4 × 3 inch bricks and 10 mm mortar joints, you need about 4.4 bricks per square foot. A 9 inch wall needs about 8.7 bricks per square foot.
How many solid blocks are needed per square foot?
With 16 × 8 inch blocks and mortar joints, you need about 1.1 blocks per square foot of wall, whichever thickness (4", 6" or 8") you choose.
Why add 5% wastage?
Some bricks are cut to fit corners, openings and ends, and a few may be damaged during handling. Adding about 5% avoids running short mid-work.
